The Met Office has issued an extreme heat alert for Northamptonshire and across the Midlands this Thursday 13th August 2026.

This follows the heat health warning already in place from the  UK Health Security Agency due to ongoing higher temperatures this summer.

Here’s another reminder of how to take care of yourself and others during this time:

• Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds during the day – especially sun-facing windows
• Drink plenty of water during the day. Try not to drink too much alcohol
• Stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm, when it is hottest. Find shade if you have to go out
• Avoid hard exercise or heavy work when the weather is very hot

The NHS offers advice on recognising heat exhaustion and heat stroke and what to do if you suspect someone has them.

Finally, if you are able, do check on your neighbours, especially older people or anyone who might be more vulnerable to the heat and remember, pets can also get hot – so keep them out of the sun too.
