NPH electricians transform communal walkway

When one of our long-term tenants, Mrs Bates, raised concerns about poor lighting in the communal areas, the team wasted no time looking for a lasting solution. The existing fittings couldn’t be repaired, so Electrical Senior Trade Operative, Steve and Electrical Qualifying Supervisor, Carl, put their heads together and designed a complete lighting overhaul, one that could be delivered in-house, making use of the skills and expertise of our own electricians.

Over three freezing days, electricians Tony and Mark, supported by apprentice Alfie, got stuck into the challenge. They installed over 80 metres of metal conduit, ran around 100 metres of new cabling and fitted 14 brand-new lights that now illuminate three walkways. Alfie’s contribution even counted toward his apprenticeship portfolio, a great example of how projects like this support skills development within the team.

Mrs Bates is happy with the quality of the finished project. She told us: “The work was done with a minimum of fuss and the electricians were very nice. I reported the issue because, whilst I am not scared of the dark, I now realise how wary I was of tripping over something. Since the installation, I can clearly see who is arriving at my gate and it really has improved the safety for all visitors to our flats.”

The opposite side of the square will get the same treatment once the weather improves, but for now, residents are already enjoying the results of this impressive effort.
